What Is Sports Medicine?

A man with a shaved head lying on his back in a medical setting with chest electrodes attached. He is wearing earphones and has a device placed on his lower abdomen, with wires connected to his chest.

Sports medicine is the focus on prevention and treatment of injuries and illnesses related to sports and exercise. It includes the management of acute injuries, such as fractures and sprains, as well as chronic conditions, such as tendonitis and osteoarthritis. We work with athletes and active individuals to optimize their performance and prevent injuries, as well as to help them recover from injuries and return to their activities as soon as possible.

Sports rehab goes beyond standard physical therapy or basic chiropractic adjustments. It's an active, goal-directed process that includes movement assessment to identify biomechanical breakdowns, progressive loading to restore strength and tissue capacity, sport-specific training to prepare your body for the demands of your activity, and return-to-sport testing with objective benchmarks before you go back full-speed.
